Here are a few tips to store your guinea fowl correctly and preserve its taste and nutritional qualities until use :
Whether whole or in portions, fresh guinea fowl can be kept in a refrigerator at 2°C quite safely until its use by date. It’s a good idea to remove any plastic film packaging and to store the bird wrapped in foil.
The use by date indicated is only valid if the product is permanently stored at a maximum temperature of 4°C. If the cold chain is interrupted (transported non-chilled in a car or stored in a refrigerator at a temperature above 4°C), it is recommended to consume the meat immediately. Never bring raw poultry meat into contact with other foodstuffs and always discard the raw meat juices.
Guinea fowl can be kept in a freezer at -18°C until the best before date expires.
Remove the bird from its original packaging and place in an airtight freezer bag. Important! Never refreeze a defrosted guinea fowl.
The best way to defrost guinea fowl is to leave it over a whole night night in the refrigerator. Allow three hours defrosting time for every 500g of guinea fowl.
When completely defrosted, use within two days maximum.
